Sales Resume Template
Sales hiring is arithmetic. A manager scanning your resume is trying to work out three things — whether you have carried a number like the one in the posting, whether you can build your own pipeline, and whether your deal sizes match the segment they are hiring for. This sales resume template gives those answers a fixed position in the top third of the page, then shows how to write the experience section so each role reads as a record of what you sold rather than a list of duties.
Free forever. No account, no card, no catch — your data never leaves your device.
A sales manager reading a resume is trying to reconstruct your last three years from a few lines: the quota you were given, the percentage you finished at, the average deal you closed and where the pipeline came from. When those four facts are missing, the reader assumes the record is weak — that is how the screen works. The layout of this template exists to stop that assumption: the numbers sit high, the source of the pipeline is stated in plain words, and each role ends with evidence of what happened after the close.
What a sales resume template needs to hold
- Quota and attainment. The number you carried and the percentage you finished at, for each of the last two or three years where the record is strong.
- Average deal size and count. A $40K average across 30 deals is a different job from $400K across three, and managers hire for the segment they run.
- Pipeline origin. Self-sourced outbound, inbound lead flow, channel partners or a named account list — say which, because it predicts how much coaching you need.
- Sales cycle length. Days from first call to signature tells a hiring manager how you work a process and where you will need ramp time.
- CRM discipline. The tool you forecast in and the hygiene you kept, since most teams run their forecast from the CRM rather than from memory.
- Retention and expansion. Renewal rates and upsell work are the strongest evidence that what you sold stayed sold.
Section order for a sales resume
- Header: name, target title, city and state, phone, email and one professional link.
- Summary: three lines carrying the level, the segment, the quota and one attainment figure.
- Experience: reverse-chronological, with the numbers in the first bullet of each role rather than spread through the block.
- Skills: grouped under selling, CRM and tools, methods, and verticals so a keyword filter finds each category.
- Education and certifications: degree, plus any product or methodology certification that is current.

How to write quota numbers that hold up
Write the quota, then the result, then the comparison. “Closed $1.45M against a $1.2M quota (121%), second of eleven reps” gives a manager everything needed in one line, including the peer context that separates a strong year from an easy territory. If you missed the number, say so and give the reason in the same breath — a missed year explained by a budget freeze reads as honesty, while a missing year reads as a problem. The same rule applies to pipeline: state the coverage multiple and where the opportunities came from.
How to write sales experience bullets
- Put the result in the first bullet. Managers read top-down and stop when the numbers are missing; lead with the attainment line and let the rest of the block explain how it happened.
- Describe the process, not the product. Discovery, technical validation, security review, procurement and legal are the stages a hiring manager recognises — name the ones you ran.
- Show the work you did before the buyer appeared. Target account research, sequencing, cold-call volume and territory planning are evidence that the pipeline was earned.
- Include the expansion story. A renewal you protected or a module you added says more about account management than any adjective.
- Name the tools the team runs on. CRM, dialler, conversation intelligence and prospecting platforms are the working vocabulary of the job.
ATS notes for sales resumes
- Write percentages and currency amounts as plain text — a chart or a graph of attainment is dropped before parsing and leaves nothing behind.
- Spell out the CRM name exactly as the posting does; Salesforce and HubSpot are the two terms most sales filters look for.
- Keep the header contact details in the body of the page rather than a page header, which many parsers skip entirely.
- Use standard headings — Summary, Experience, Skills, Education — so the extraction maps your quota history onto the right fields.
- Avoid tables for the pipeline or attainment summary; extracted table cells can arrive out of order and turn a clean record into noise.
Common mistakes on sales resumes
- Listing duties — “managed a territory”, “built relationships” — with no quota, attainment or deal size anywhere in the role.
- Reporting a percentage without the quota it came from, which makes a strong year impossible to verify.
- Burying the pipeline source, leaving a manager to guess whether the leads were handed over or hunted.
- Keeping the resume at a single page while dropping the SDR or BDR role that explains how you learned to prospect.
- Writing product features instead of buyer problems; the hiring manager sells the same product and does not need the brochure.
- Leaving the CRM or forecasting tool out of the skills block, even though the team's forecast depends on it.
This sales layout is one of the templates ShitResume ships, and the document behind it holds the same order — summary, numbers-first experience, grouped skills — on every screen and in every export. ShitResume runs in the browser and keeps the resume on your device, so a document containing your quota history and compensation detail is never uploaded anywhere. Every layout, PDF and DOCX export is free, with no account needed to begin.

Frequently asked questions
What numbers should a sales resume include?
Quota, attainment percentage, average deal size, deal count, sales cycle length and pipeline coverage, with the source of the pipeline named. Two or three years of those figures tell a sales manager more than a full page of responsibilities, and they are the first thing a recruiter scans for.
How long should a sales resume be?
One page for under ten years of experience, two for a long record with promotions or enterprise-scale deals. If space runs short, cut the oldest role's bullets and keep the numbers in the current one. A quota line without a role around it is worth more than a complete job description.
What if I missed quota in one year?
State the number and the reason in one line: a territory that was restructured, a budget freeze in the vertical, a ramp period after a new product launch. Sales managers have all seen a missed year; what they screen for is a candidate who hides it or cannot explain it.
Should I include an SDR or BDR role if I am now closing?
Yes. It is the evidence that you can build pipeline rather than inherit it, and pipeline origin is one of the first questions in a sales interview. Keep it short — two bullets covering prospecting volume and conversion are enough once you are carrying a closing quota.
Which sales keywords does an ATS look for?
Quota, attainment, pipeline, prospecting, Salesforce, HubSpot, MEDDPICC, forecasting, territory and the segment names from the posting — enterprise, mid-market, SMB. Mirror the posting's exact terms where they describe your work, because a filter matches strings rather than synonyms.
Does a sales resume need a cover letter?
Not always, but a short one helps when you are changing industry or segment. Use it to connect your deal history to the buyer the company sells to, and keep the resume focused on the numbers. The related guides below cover the resume structure itself.
