Sales Representative Resume
A sales resume is read differently from almost any other. A hiring manager looks for one number — how much of quota you closed — before reading a single bullet. This guide covers the sections a sales resume needs, a complete worked example, the metrics that matter in each selling motion, and formatting that keeps an ATS from mangling your numbers.
What a sales representative resume must include
- A headline naming your selling motion and segment — outbound, inbound, or account management, and SMB, mid-market, or enterprise.
- Quota attainment for the last two to three years, as a percentage with the period attached, near the top of the page.
- Average deal size and typical sales cycle length, so a reader can size the terrain you operated in.
- Your CRM and the rest of your stack — Salesforce or HubSpot, plus Outreach, Gong, ZoomInfo, or LinkedIn Sales Navigator where you genuinely used them.
- The shape of your territory or book: named accounts, a geographic patch, an industry vertical, or a book you inherited rather than built.
- Recognition with a date on it — President's Club FY2024, top five of forty reps — because an undated award reads as ancient history.
One warning before you start: sales titles vary enormously between companies. An account executive at one firm hunts full-cycle from cold outreach; at another they only work leads handed over by a sales development team. Describe what you owned — prospecting, closing, renewals, or expansion — rather than trusting the title to say it.

Enterprise Account Executive — B2B SaaS · Full-Cycle · MEDDPICC
Chicago, IL · [email protected]
Summary
Enterprise account executive with eight years in B2B software sales, the last four carrying a $1.2M annual new-business quota across mid-market and enterprise accounts. Closed 121% of quota in FY2025 at an average deal size of $84K, and built the majority of my pipeline through self-sourced outbound rather than inbound lead flow.
Experience
Chicago, IL
- Closed $1.45M in new bookings in FY2025 against a $1.2M quota (121%), finishing second of eleven reps on the team.
- Built $4.1M of qualified pipeline from self-sourced outbound — cold calling, LinkedIn, and sequenced email — covering 3.4x quota across the year.
- Shortened the average sales cycle from 96 days to 68 by introducing a mutual action plan and starting the security review at technical validation instead of at the end.
- Raised net revenue retention on my book from 104% to 118% by running quarterly business reviews with operations directors and selling the second and third warehouse modules.
- Kept Salesforce current as the single source of truth — every call logged, next steps dated, forecast category updated weekly — and was the rep sales operations used for forecast-accuracy pilots.
Chicago, IL
- Delivered 108% of a $750K annual quota in FY2021 and 96% in FY2020, when new-business budgets froze across two of my three verticals.
- Ran full-cycle deals across a territory of 340 manufacturing and distribution accounts, averaging 31 days from first call to signature on a $46K average contract value.
- Closed 44 new logos over three years against a team median of 29, working almost entirely accounts with no prior vendor relationship.
- Co-sold with two systems integrators into accounts I could not reach directly, which contributed $310K of the FY2021 total.
Chicago, IL
- Booked 27 qualified meetings per month against a target of 20, the second-highest rate on a team of nine.
- Researched and sequenced 1,400 target accounts in Outreach and LinkedIn Sales Navigator, lifting reply rates from 4% to 9% by rewriting the opening line around a trigger event.

How to present quota attainment
Put quota where it cannot be missed. The summary is the strongest place for it, and the first bullet of each recent role is the second. A reader who has to hunt for your attainment will assume there is a reason you hid it.
- Attach the period to every percentage — “121% of quota, FY2025” — so it cannot be read as a career average.
- Give the dollar figure alongside it when it is honest: “$1.45M closed against a $1.2M quota”.
- Say what the quota was measured on: new bookings, total revenue, renewals, or units. Those are not the same job.
- If you missed, explain the environment in the same sentence instead of leaving a bare number: “96% of quota in a year when two of my three verticals froze new spending”.
- State whether the quota was annual or quarterly, and whether you carried it individually or as part of a pooled team target.
Bullets that survive a skim
Sales bullets have a natural shape: the outcome, then the action that produced it, then the scale. Numbers come first because that is what a sales reader scans for. Where you can, name the mechanism too — a manager who has run the same play recognizes it immediately.
- Weak: “Responsible for growing territory revenue.” Strong: “Grew territory revenue 34% by rebuilding the account plan around the two verticals with the shortest procurement cycles.”
- Weak: “Managed a pipeline of opportunities.” Strong: “Maintained $4.1M in qualified pipeline, 3.4x quota, by self-sourcing outbound three days a week instead of waiting on inbound.”
- Weak: “Worked with cross-functional teams.” Strong: “Partnered with solutions engineering and legal to standardize the security review, cutting 28 days from the enterprise close.”
- Weak: “Exceeded sales goals.” Strong: “Finished FY2025 at 121% of a $1.2M quota, second of eleven reps, on an average deal size of $84K.”
- Weak: “Strong communication skills.” Strong: “Ran quarterly business reviews with operations directors at 14 accounts, which surfaced $410K of expansion revenue.”
Skills and keywords for sales roles
Applicant tracking systems match your resume against the job description, and sales postings are unusually specific about motion and segment. Use the posting's own vocabulary where it describes work you really did: if they say “full-cycle” and you closed full-cycle, say “full-cycle”. Mirroring words you can defend is honest; mirroring words you cannot is a problem you will meet on the first call.
- Quota and revenue: quota attainment, ACV, ARR, bookings, pipeline coverage, net revenue retention
- Motions: outbound prospecting, inbound qualification, full-cycle closing, account management, expansion
- CRM and tooling: Salesforce, HubSpot, Outreach, Salesloft, Gong, ZoomInfo, LinkedIn Sales Navigator
- Methods: MEDDPICC, SPIN, Challenger, Sandler, value-based selling, mutual action plans, negotiation
- Segments and verticals: SMB, mid-market, enterprise, SaaS, logistics, manufacturing, healthcare
- Reporting: forecasting, pipeline hygiene, quarterly business reviews, win/loss analysis, territory planning
ATS notes for sales resumes
- Keep the document single-column. Pushing your metrics into a sidebar is the most common reason a sales resume parses as scrambled text.
- Write numbers as ordinary characters. A figure inside a graphic, a chart of your attainment, or an image-based PDF cannot be read at all.
- Use standard heading names — Summary, Experience, Education, Skills. Parsers look for them, and a creative label can leave a whole block unmapped.
- Spell out an acronym the first time you use it, since tokenisers vary: “net revenue retention (NRR)”.
- Avoid tables, text boxes, and content in the header or footer. They are often dropped altogether, and that is where quota figures tend to sit.
Formatting does not win interviews on its own, and it cannot rescue a record without results. What it does is remove the chance that a strong record is lost to a parser before a person ever sees the numbers.

Frequently asked questions
How do I show quota attainment if I missed it one year?
Give the figure and the context together: “96% of quota in FY2020, when new-business budgets froze across two of my three verticals” answers the question the reader was about to ask. Leaving the year out is what looks evasive. If your employer never published individual quotas, describe your ranking, the revenue you closed, or growth against the territory's prior year instead.
Should I put sales numbers on my resume?
Yes, where they are real and yours to share. Quota attainment, average deal size, pipeline generated and cycle length are what a sales manager uses to judge which role you can carry. Leave out revenue that is confidential to a former employer, and never round up — the first interview walks through these exact figures.
What is the difference between an account executive and a sales representative on a resume?
It depends on the employer, which is why the resume must say more than the title. Many companies give account executives the full cycle — prospecting, discovery, negotiation, closing — while a sales representative or account manager owns an existing book of renewals. State what you sourced, what was handed to you, and whether your number was new business or retention.
Should I list cold calling and prospecting on a sales resume?
If you did it and the role requires it, yes — but show the output, not the activity. “Booked 27 qualified meetings a month against a target of 20” beats “experienced in cold calling”. If your recent roles were inbound, say plainly that you are returning to outbound and give the most recent evidence you have.
How long should a sales resume be?
One page under about ten years of experience, two if the second page is genuinely full of results. Sales readers skim for numbers, so an early role padded with responsibilities works against you. Keep your last two or three roles detailed and compress everything before them to a line or two.
Do sales resumes need a cover letter?
It depends on the employer and the channel. Applying to a large company through an applicant tracking system, the resume carries the decision and the letter is often optional. For a small company or a referral, a short note naming the specific territory problem you would be hired to solve can earn the first call.
